How did crazy"Car Talk" brothers Tom and Ray Magliozzi get their start as the mavens of the motor world? Tom Magliozzi claims to have successfully avoided doing anything that looks like work for some time now, but it was a lot of work to get to that point. Before he got a job ranting and raving about car repairs on radio, he went to MIT and Boston College, got a genuine PhD and sauntered around campus as a college professor.
"Car Talk" star Raymond "Chuckie Magliozzi, like all little brothers, followed his big brother Tom around, all the way to MIT. One day they had the bright idea of opening an auto repair shop where people could come and do their own car repairs, using the shop's tools. To this day the garage is still a full-time job, and provides great fodder for "Car Talk."
